Americus Featherman letter, 1880.

Letter from Americus Featherman in Paris, France, to David F. Boyd, president of Louisiana State University, referring to an earlier decision by the Federal courts to bring judgment against the University for Featherman's unpaid salary. Included is a description of public education in France. A newspaper clipping contains the plan of studies and program adopted by the Superior Council of the University of France.

David French Boyd (1834-1899) was an officer in the Confederate Army who for a time was a prisoner of war on a Union boat moored in Alexandria, La.
